PASQUA

The project will provide technical support to the municipality of Easter Island to develop plans and concrete actions aimed at optimizing the management of the island's water resources in a self-sufficient and sustainable manner.

The planned activities are:

• Background analysis of water cycle management
• Identification of problems and limitations due to water supply, wastewater treatment and discharge, and associated waste management
• Design and sizing of selected solutions
• Carrying out training sessions in Easter and Catalonia
• Preparation of an action plan and guidelines for the implementation of a sustainable management system for the water cycle.

The general objective is to find a solution to manage the water cycle in a sustainable and self-sufficient way, taking into account the particular conditions of the island from the practical, technical, economic and human resources point of view, so as to ensure the long-term availability of water with the necessary quality and quantity and preserving the aquifers and the sea.

The following specific objectives have been established:

• Identify appropriate technical solutions for: water purification, wastewater treatment and management of the waste generated by these treatments.
• Develop the self-sufficiency of the local personnel involved in the implementation of technical solutions and in the tasks of operation, maintenance and control of the facilities.
• Guarantee the future preservation of aquifers and the sea.
