The environment ministers of the G20 countries, in a broad and ambitious declaration that reached consensus after a long period of divergences, recognized on Thursday the urgency of combating climate change and committed to a UN convention to combat plastic pollution. In addition to announcing their full support for the full implementation of the three existing conventions (biodiversity, climate change and desertification), the twenty largest economies in the world announced their commitment to carry out a new one, aimed at combating plastic pollution, including in the oceans. The commitments were made in a declaration released after the meetings that the ministers of Environment and Climate of the G20 countries had this week in Rio de Janeiro and will be presented for consideration at the Summit that the group will have on November 18 and 19, also in this Brazilian city.
