Data centers that emit lessCO2 are designed

A team of researchers at Carnegie Mellon University (CMU) called “GreenSKUs” focuses on creating more carbon-efficient server designs, without compromising performance

In the fight against climate change, reducing carbon emissions is a global priority. Although the most visible industries, such as transportation and manufacturing, are usually the main ones, Information and Communication Technology (ICT) also plays a significant role. Currently, this sector is responsible for between 2% and 4% of global carbon emissions, a figure similar to that of the aviation industry, and this proportion is expected to increase to 20% by 2030. Cloud services, a key component of ICT, generate two types of emissions: operational emissions, which come from energy consumption, and so-called “embodied”, derived from the manufacture of hardware components, such as semiconductors.
