The 4 climate and energy commitments agreed by the BRICS in New Delhi

The BRICS summit in New Delhi culminated in various climate commitments and global cooperation for adaptation to climate change. They agreed to maintain support for the Paris Agreement with priorities in energy security, economic flexibility and sustainable management of natural resources, as well as the preservation of forests.

1. Climate adaptation to mitigate the effects of climate change
The BRICS are agreements of leaders of countries such as India, Brazil, China, Indonesia, Iran, Russia and South Africa, but their agreements may have some influence on the global economy, as they involve the countries with the largest populations and represent about 40% of the world’s gross domestic product, as well as total emissions. The UN has demanded urgent measures to curb climate change, which is why the BRICS support climate resilience and adaptation. In the face of the geopolitical conflicts unleashed in recent months, they call for international cooperation as a central focus for long-term support and to prevent climate effects from continuing to hit economies. The devastating floods in Nepal and China, along with the intense heat waves that hit much of the world, highlight the vulnerability of people and economies to the climate crisis. Climate adaptation has become a key need and investment.
