Spain aims to simultaneously expand twelve of its busiest airports, including Madrid, Barcelona, Palma and Malaga, which accounted for two-thirds (66%) of emissions from flights departing from the country by 2025, according to T&E’s analysis. The organisation also estimates that planned expansions at these four airports will generate an additional 35 million tonnes of CO2, an amount roughly equivalent to the annual emissions of the entire Portuguese economy.
