Ramsar Convention publishes guidelines for measuring carbon capture and emission in wetlands

The Ramsar Convention on Wetlands has released a new policy report to help countries assess the capture and emission of greenhouse gases, provided by its Scientific and Technical Review Panel. And although the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) has already offered some methodological guidelines in this regard, most, until 2023, had not accounted for these ecosystems in their national inventories. This technical document strongly emphasizes the need for an improvement in wetland carbon accounting and its formal incorporation into Nationally Determined Contributions.
