Greenhouse gases continued to rise in the world in 2023, but fell in Spain

The three main gases fell in our country by 7.7%, but there are no clear signs of decline on the planet

Global levels of the three most important man-made greenhouse gases (carbon dioxide (CO₂), methane, and nitrous oxide) continued to rise steadily during 2023, according to data from the U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). In Spain, however, the trend was the opposite and they fell by 7.7%, according to a different report. According to NOAA’s latest global stocktake, while the increase in the three heat-trapping gases recorded in air samples collected by the Global Monitoring Laboratory (GML) in 2023 was not as high as the record jumps seen in recent years, they were in line with the sharp increases seen over the past decade.
