The energy tasks for the next Commission that emerges from the European elections

Agora Energiewende argues that the electrification of industrial heat must become a priority, as it would rapidly reduce the use of fossil gases and CO₂ emissions, and make the industry more resilient and competitive.

Greening Europe’s industrial base, ensuring the resilience of cleantech value chains and creating a new EU climate fund should be among the priorities of the next European Commission, which will take up its duties after the European elections in June 2024, according to a new paper by the Agora Energiewende think tank.
The next Commission should draw up an “EU Industrial Direct Electrification Action Plan”, which would set dates for phasing out fossil fuels in certain industrial processes. Agora Energiewende argues that direct electrification of industrial heat should become a priority, as it would rapidly reduce fossil gas use and CO₂ emissions, and make the industry more resilient and competitive.
