Brussels approves new rules for recharging points and sustainable marine fuels

On the one hand, MEPs have achieved that by 2026 electric charging stations for cars with a minimum power of 400 kilowatts (kW) at least every 60 kilometers will be installed. Power should increase to 600 kW by 2028. Every 120 km there should be stations for trucks and buses. In addition, payment for alternative fuel should be simple. Moreover, the new legislation to make marine fuels cleaner relies on ships gradually reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, by cutting the amount of GHG in the energy used, by 2% from 2025 and reaching a target of 80% from 2050. It will also apply to 50% of the energy used on journeys where the port of departure or arrival is outside the EU or in outermost regions.
