Energy demand drives global nuclear renaissance with 262 small modular reactors to be deployed by 2040

According to ABI Research’s forecasts, the generation capacity of the planned SMRs is 42 gigawatts

Rapid industrial electrification, green energy imperatives, skyrocketing data center deployment, and capacity constraints in transmission and distribution networks are leading energy players to adjust the energy mix in favor of nuclear power using small modular reactors (SMRs).

According to the new report “Small Modular Reactors (SMRs) – Technologies, Applications, and Forecasts” by global technology intelligence firm ABI Research, by 2040 262 SMRs will have been deployed worldwide, representing a total generation capacity of 42 gigawatts (GW). Although significant momentum is not expected until 2030, strong growth is anticipated in the second half of the next decade.
