Global greenhouse gas emissions will fall by 10% in 2035 if new or updated climate plans registered by countries ahead of the 30th Climate Summit, known as COP30 and which will begin on November 10 in Belém, Brazil, are met. The United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) has updated the synthesis report of the climate action plans communicated by countries until September 30 and which cover about a third of total emissions of gases that warm the planet. December 12 will mark the 10th anniversary of the adoption of the Paris Agreement. The report concludes that global emissions are starting to decline and that countries are submitting the most comprehensive set of national climate commitments to date, called NDCs (Nationally Determined Contributions). The report indicates that 88% of new or updated national climate plans are based on the Global Stocktake of COP28, held in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, in 2023, 89% include economy-wide targets covering all major sectors, and 73% contain adaptation components.
