EU reaches historic agreement for green bond standard

• This will be the first law of its kind worldwide
• It is more restrictive than the standards used today, such as ICMA’s

It had been expected for a long time and has finally seen the light. And, although it is a preliminary agreement, it is very relevant. At midnight from Tuesday to Wednesday, negotiators from the Council and the European Parliament reached an “interim” understanding for the creation of a European green bond standard. To do this, both organizations had to iron out their rough edges, since they had opposing positions. They had been in dialogue since July 2022
