The efficiency of carbon storage as a decarbonization technology is based on the rock’s sealing ability to permanently store_CO2. Therefore, a transport model has been developed to capture the upward migration of CO₂ throughout the basin in a multi-layered environment, finding that massive capillary breakthrough and viscous CO flow are unlikely to occur₂, even through widespread fractured roof rocks.
