Strategy of the European Union to reduce methane emissions, Communication from the Commission to the European Parliament, the European Economic and Social Committee and the Committee of the Regions

The EU Methane Strategy published in October 2020, is one of the priority initiatives of the European Green Deal to curb the increase in temperature until 2050. The strategy will focus on reducing methane emissions in the energy, agriculture and waste sectors, as these areas account for 19%, 53% and 26% respectively of anthropogenic methane emissions. To this end, more precise measurement and notification measures will be established, as well as more effective mitigation measures, some of them mandatory for the energy sector.
