Special Report on Drought 2021

This Global Assessment Report on Disaster Risk Reduction (GAR) aims to raise awareness of the risks that drought poses to communities, ecosystems and economies, providing an in-depth study of the nature of drought risk and providing information on new approaches to reduce and manage risk. Drought has always been a threat, but climate change projections suggest that many areas will experience more frequent and severe droughts. The impacts of drought are borne disproportionately by the most vulnerable people, but affect all societies and endure through time. The report indicates that risk reduction approaches need to be devised and capacity built to adapt as drought risk changes, and identifies the enabling conditions to transform drought management at the local, national and global levels.
