Gas Market Report, Fourth Quarter 2022

As markets prepare for a winter of uncertainty, security of energy supply has become a priority. A complete closure of Russian pipeline flows to the European Union cannot be ruled out. The sharp drop in Russian gas flows to Europe and a tight energy market pushed European gas prices, and indirectly Asian LNG spot prices, […]

Global Hydrogen Review 2022

Hydrogen demand reached 94 million tonnes in 2021, recovering above pre-pandemic levels and containing energy equivalent to approximately 2.5% of global final energy consumption. Most of the increase came from traditional uses in refining and industry, although demand for new applications grew to around 40,000 tonnes (up 60% from 2020).

Global energy employment. IEA.

The report is the first comprehensive inventory of the global workforce in the energy sector, presenting estimates of the size and distribution of the workforce, and increasing the granularity of the number of workers along the entire energy value chain. This includes the production of fossil fuels and bioenergy; generation, transmission, distribution and storage of […]

How circular economy principles can affect carbon and value. UK Green Building Council (UKGBC)

The report seeks to increase understanding within the construction industry of how circularity can support carbon reductions throughout its lifetime. It also seeks to enable project decision makers and key stakeholders in the construction environment to strengthen and implement circularity. The report demonstrates that circularity benefits not only carbon, but meets a much broader set […]

Incineration and waste in the EU: quantities and destinations. Zero Waste Europe.

This study seeks to understand the amount of waste generated by waste incineration in the EU and what happens to that waste, in particular, how much waste can be landfilled. Although the report focuses on incineration, it seeks to understand the amount of waste from both incineration and co-incineration by considering ‘all waste’. The Industrial […]

Reduction of greenhouse gas emissions from heavy-duty vehicles, AEM.

Emissions in the transport sector are increasing every year, and the main cause of this trend is a growing demand for freight transport, which is partly offset by improved energy efficiency of roads, but achieving a climate-neutral EU requires faster improvements in efficiency and a shift to lower emission vehicles and more efficient modes of […]

Take stock and plan for the future. Life Unify. EU.

This report provides a balance sheet of the current state of implementation of the Energy and Climate Plans and provides 5 recommendations for Member States to develop ambitious plans in their next review process. These recommendations are: increase the level of ambition, develop sound plans, support policies with fair investments, improve public participation and ensure […]

Citizen participation in the energy transition. AEM.

Renewables are expanding across Europe, gradually replacing energy with fossil fuels and creating new opportunities for citizens to become energy producers themselves and actively contribute to the energy transition. This type of citizen participation is called prosumption, and people who actively participate are called prosumers.

Monthly electricity statistics, IEA.

Total net electricity production was 864.1 TWh in 2022, corresponding to an increase of 3.6% compared to May 2021. 48.3% of production came from fossil fuels, 36.2% from renewable sources and 15.2% from nuclear energy. Electricity production from nuclear power decreased by 8.6% year-on-year, while production of both fossil fuels and renewables increased. IEA

Soil Carbon, AEM, September 2022.

It is important that information on soil carbon status and trends is readily available. This report presents information on soil carbon that can be extracted from national greenhouse gas inventories, as reported by Member States. It also provides an overview of the state of soil carbon stocks across Europe.
