Net Zero Economy Index 2020: a crucial decade

The Net Zero Economy Index 2020 report – known, until this twelfth edition, as the PwC Low Carbon Economy Index – tracks the decarbonization of CO emissions₂ related to energy around the world, measures the progress of countries in decoupling economic growth from their emissions and highlights the effort behind the commitments of companies, governments and investors to achieve the long-awaited decarbonization . This report indicates that, after the reopening of the economies, the ‘rebound’ in emissions is being rapid, and warns of the importance of avoiding a return to business as usual. In fact, it recalls that the post-COVID-19 recovery programs and stimulus packages are a unique opportunity to design cleaner and safer energy systems, generate jobs in this field and drive a large-scale transformation that will make it possible to successfully face a pivotal decade.
