4C Carbon Outlook

The 4C consortium, made up of 12 academic partners from 7 European countries, with the most experience in the global carbon cycle and climate system, publishes Carbon Outlook 2020 providing the changes in global _CO₂ concentrations and the update on the state of the sinks. In 2020, global CO ₂ concentrations continued to rise, reaching 412 ppm. This was despite a -7% drop in annual emissions compared to 2019 as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. The terrestrial sink was slightly weaker in 2020, so there was a similar increase in atmospheric concentrations in 2019 and 2020.
