CO2 QUOTE Closing from Cierre del 15-05-2024 67,54 €/T

The Government cancels the CO 2 tax of 2019 and lowers the rate in 2020

The Government has annulled the tax on CO2 emissions that cars and vans must pay corresponding to 2019 and will apply the lowest rate in 2020 to meet the needs of citizens in the context of the crisis derived from COVID-19.

These changes have been incorporated into the new Decree Law on urgent measures in fiscal matters that the Catalan executive has approved this Wednesday and that seeks, precisely, to adapt the application of the new environmental tax and the tax on stays in tourist establishments to the current economic situation.

In relation to the tax on CO2 emissions from mechanical traction vehicles, the Government cancels the 2019 financial year, in which it was already obliged to pay taxes on cars and vans.

In addition, in the 2020 financial year, which will be merited on December 31, the lowest rate will be applied, which was initially planned only for 2019, for cars and motorcycles that emit up to 120 g / km; and for vans, up to 160 g/km.

The decree also modifies the publication schedule of the provisional and definitive registers of this tax, in which the information on what each taxpayer must settle with respect to the year 2020 will appear.

The provisional register will be exposed between May 1 and 15, 2021 and the final one, between September 1 and 15.

Regarding motorcycles, the decree establishes a rule of calculation of the emissions of the oldest motorcycles, for which official data were not available, and approves a bonus of one hundred percent of the full quota for vehicles considered “classic”.

On the other hand, the Government will also facilitate the settlements of the payment of the tax on stays in tourist establishments to help this sector in these times of economic difficulties.

Thus, the owners of the farms of the tourist establishments may request deferrals or the fractionation of the payment of the tax corresponding to the winter season of 2019 and the summer of 2020.
