Global Atomic “Family” Pledges to Deploy Nuclear Power Plants to ReduceCO2

A total of 37 countries, representing some 4.8 billion people, met today in Brussels for the first Nuclear Energy Summit, where they reaffirmed their commitment to atomic energy as part of the solution to reduce CO₂.

The signatories of the text at the meeting convened by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and Belgium underline their “commitment to nuclear energy as a key component of the “global strategy to reduce emissions”, respecting “the highest levels of safety and security”. “We are committed to working to fully unlock the potential of nuclear power by taking steps such as creating favorable conditions to competitively support and finance the life extension of existing nuclear reactors, the construction of new plants … and the early deployment of advanced reactors,” they add.
