BRICS: Why Iran Joined the Alliance

Iran has recently become one of the newest members of the BRICS alliance, marking a significant shift in its international relations.

Along with Iran, the BRICS bloc welcomed the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Egypt and Ethiopia during the last enlargement. However, Argentina, led by President Javier Millay, refused to join the BRICS, expressing doubts about the alliance’s effectiveness. For its part, Saudi Arabia has been invited to join, but has not yet confirmed its participation.
