EU justice overturns green exclusion of business jets

The General Court annuls the automatic exclusion of the manufacture of business aircraft from the green taxonomy and forces Brussels to review its technical approach.

A ruling that reopens the debate on aviation and sustainable finance
The General Court of the European Union has annulled the exclusion of the manufacture of aircraft intended for private or commercial business aviation from the group of “transitional” activities of the European green taxonomy. The decision, handed down on 24 June in Luxembourg in case T-77/24, agrees with Dassault Aviation, the French manufacturer of Falcon jets, and forces the European Commission to reconsider the way it classified this part of the aviation industry. The European Union taxonomy is a common classification system that defines which economic activities can be considered environmentally sustainable or aligned with the climate transition. The Commission presents it as a transparency tool to guide investments towards activities compatible with a net-zero emissions trajectory by 2050 and with the EU’s environmental objectives.
