EU adopts first regulation against ‘eco-posturing’ in the green bond market

The aim of the regulatory framework is to ensure that they are aligned with the financing of sustainable growth and the transition to a climate-neutral economy

The EU27 have adopted a regulation creating the EU’s first environmental bond standard, which will allow legislation against “eco-posturing” in these markets and ensure that they are aligned with the financing of sustainable growth and the transition to a climate-neutral and resource-efficient economy.
The regulation, which will enter into force 20 days after its publication in the Official Journal of the EU, sets out uniform requirements for bond issuers wishing to use the designation ‘European Green Bond’ or ‘EuGB’ for their environmentally sustainable bonds.
