Lithium trade war: China and the US lead the fight for the white diamond

China’s dominance comes to Tesla: 17% of its suppliers linked to electric cars are Chinese

The energy crisis and Russia’s invasion of Ukraine accelerated the green transition, pushing companies and countries around the world to produce more environmentally friendly technology. As a result, there were 26 million electric cars in 2022, a 60% increase from 2021, according to the International Energy Agency. These vehicles, as well as other products, run on electric batteries, which, in turn, require lithium to operate. This has generated a global struggle for this critical mineral, called ‘white diamond’, in which the US is trying to overtake China, a country that is slightly ahead in this race.
