Utilities boost_CO2 emissions in Spain to sell cheap energy to France

The release of greenhouse gases grows more than 20% in a single year, and after four consecutive reductions in this polluting load, by increasing the flaring of gas in combined cycle plants to supply the neighboring country.

“During 2022 there has been an increase in CO₂ equivalent emissions associated with national electricity generation, reaching 44.4 million tons of CO₂ equivalent, 23.8% more than in 2021”, summarizes the 2022 Electricity System Report prepared by Red Eléctrica Española, the semi-public company that manages the high voltage network, which also points out that this volume is “60% below the emissions recorded in 2007”.
