Thailand and Malaysia among countries interested in joining the BRICS

Thailand and Malaysia are among those interested in joining the BRICS, which is holding its leaders’ summit between October 22 and 24 in the Russian city of Kazan and is studying the entry of 15 new countries as partners.

These Southeast Asian countries have reiterated in recent months their willingness to join the economic bloc led by China and which represents up to 35 percent of the world’s GDP, and will send representatives to the summit in Russia.

In the case of Thailand, it will be its Foreign Minister, Maris Sangiamposa, who will attend the meeting, according to Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra’s office.
Malaysia, for its part, confirmed last week the attendance of a senior ministerial official at the Kazan meeting, without specifying more.
