Teresa Ribera takes the director of the Spanish Office for Climate Change to Brussels

Valvanera Ulargui joins the European Commission after leading the Office since 2015: “She is one of the pioneers of Spain’s response to climate change”.

The new vice-president of the European Commission, Teresa Ribera, has hired the director of the Spanish Office for Climate Change, Valvanera Ulargui, for her team in Brussels, as confirmed by the Ministry of Ecological Transition. Ulargui has been a key member of the Spanish delegations in international climate negotiations for years and had to deal with the chaotic COP29 in Azerbaijan at the head of Spain’s mission. “She is one of the pioneers in the design and development of Spain’s response to climate change. A luxury,” summarises one of his collaborators in the Ministry of Ecological Transition after learning that he is going to the European Commission. “He has taken on gigantic challenges such as the organisation of COP25 in Madrid against the clock”.
