Spain has reduced its CO₂ emissions by only 5.6% since 1990 and has just seven years to reduce another 16%

Emissions in the base year 1990 (a year with a 23% reduction) were 287.7 million tonnes of CO₂ equivalent and emissions in 2023 were 272 million tonnes of CO₂ equivalent (-5.6%), according to preliminary data for 2023 published by the prestigious Basque Centre for Climate Change. The 2030 emissions target to be reached by Spain, taking into account its European commitments, is 221.8 million tonnes of CO₂ equivalent (i.e. -23%, as mentioned).
