Sánchez presents his proposal for an environmental pact

The President of the Government closes an event on climate change on Monday at the Ministry of Ecological Transition,

On February 2, 2015, Mariano Rajoy and Pedro Sánchez signed in La Moncloa the fourth anti-terrorist pact signed by the PP and PSOE in almost 30 years. Months later, other parties joined after a string of attacks in Paris with 130 deaths. For the first time, the objective was not the fight against ETA, which in 2011 announced the definitive cessation of its bloody activity before its dissolution in 2018, but against jihadist terrorism. The proposal came from Sánchez, who had been elected secretary general of the PSOE six months earlier. Since then, a decade has passed and Sánchez is no longer in the opposition but in La Moncloa, from where he has once again proposed a State Pact, this time with the aim of making Spain better prepared to face climate change after the wave of fires that have burned more than 400,000 hectares in August and that ten months earlier caused the Valencia dana. a tragedy that left 228 dead and hundreds of thousands homeless. The PP has disdained the initiative because it considers it a “smokescreen” with which the Government would try to divert attention from its responsibility in the management of fires, whose prevention and extinction is a regional competence. Despite the long ones, the president will begin the political year with an event on climate change this Monday at noon at the Ministry of Ecological Transition together with the third vice-president Sara Aagesen, the Minister of the Interior, Fernando Grande-Marlaska, and the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, Luis Planas. Vice presidents María Jesús Montero and Yolanda Díaz -leader of Sumar in the Government-, as well as other ministers of the Cabinet, will also attend.
