Brazil’s COP30 presidency reinforces just transition agenda

The Brazilian presidency of the 30th Conference of the Parties (COP30) of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change presented on Monday, after the start of the second week of the meeting taking place in the city of Belém, the progress in the climate negotiations and outlined the next steps to accelerate international consensus to reach agreements towards the close of the meeting on November 21.

At a press conference, after the ministerial meeting began, the authorities highlighted the coordination with various countries, the progress in the presentation of the Nationally Important Contributions

Determined Energy Transition (NDC) and the construction of a roadmap for the global energy transition.

The president of COP30, Ambassador André Correa do Lago, explained that Brazil seeks to accelerate the delivery of results.

“We are going to try to anticipate the results of this COP as much as possible in two packages: a package that we are going to try to close in the middle of the week and a second package that we will try to close on Friday,” he said.

The first package of results will be related to the four main areas of consultation: Financing, unilateral trade measures, NDCs and transparency.

The second package will include all additional topics.
