Transport emissions, about to reach an all-time high… and start to go down

The ICCT forecasts that they will begin to decline from the end of this year and contract by about a quarter before 2035

Today, as every January 28, is the World Day of Action against Global Warming, also known as the World Day for the Reduction of CO₂ Emissions. If only to add a note of optimism to a current situation that – in this and other areas – rather invites the opposite, it is worth echoing the latest report by an independent and non-profit organization, as well as prestigious, such as the International Council on Clean Transport (ICCT). The entity specifically points out that CO₂ emissions attributable to transport could peak this year and – the good part of the matter – from that moment on they would begin to gradually decrease, a projection that extends to the consumption of liquid fuels. Let us remember that the International Energy Agency considers that this sector concentrates more than 26% of total global emissions. “Headlines and conversations revolving around zero-emission vehicles can sometimes make it seem like the transition is stalling. But, when you look at the numbers and look at science-based projections, there is actually positive news.”
