On 26 February 2025, the European Commission gave the green light to a package of reforms that will significantly alter corporate sustainability regulations in the European Union. To analyse the scope of these changes, the CSR Observatory has produced a publication that breaks down the main points of the Omnibus proposal and its impact on the transition to a more sustainable economy and on corporate responsibility within the European Union. Europe has sought to position itself as a benchmark in sustainable production, promoting regulations aimed at preventing, mitigating and assessing adverse effects on human rights and the environment. However, with this new legislative package, presented by the Commissioner for Economy, Productivity, Implementation and Simplification, Valdis Dombrovskis, and the Commissioner for Financial Services and the Savings and Investment Union, María Luís Albuquerque, the door is opened to a weakening of climate and corporate transparency commitments. Under the argument of reducing the administrative burden on companies and strengthening their competitiveness, these modifications dismantle corporate responsibilities in sustainability, limit transparency and exclude civil society from the process. But to what extent does this strategy really favour a sustainable economic model?
