UN says world is headed for warming of up to 3.1°C

At COP28 last year, countries such as Saudi Arabia saw a commitment to abandon fossil fuels as a possible option

In a new report, the United Nations (UN) warns that the chronic lack of ambition and climate action by the different countries of the world over the last three years means that the goal of keeping global warming below 1.5ºC will soon come to nothing. According to UNEP (United Nations Environment Programme), if current policies are continued, the planet’s temperature will rise by 3.1ºC before the end of this century, while the implementation of the promised reforms would mean, in the best case, an increase of 2.6ºC, that is, well above the level at which critical climate tipping points could be exceeded.
