Among the main problems pointed out is the lack of coherence and predictability in instruments such as the automotive package, the revision of the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM), the future revision of the Emissions Trading System (ETS) and the Industrial Acceleration Act (IAA).
Brussels is facing pressure from Europe’s top industry ministers, who are urging a profound change in regulation to protect the competitiveness of the continent’s industrial sector. Austria, Croatia, the Czech Republic, France, Germany, Italy, Luxembourg, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia and Spain have signed a joint statement stressing that the current accumulation of regulations threatens investment, innovation and European productive capacity. The group, which builds on the Berlin Declaration, stresses that a more favourable business environment is key to stimulating growth and strengthening Europe’s strategic autonomy, especially in an increasingly complex geopolitical context. Ministers warn that, despite Brussels’ stated commitment to simplifying regulation, the European Commission continues to propose new legislative initiatives, many of which generate administrative burdens and contradictions between them.
