The European Parliament validates the trade agreement with the US with more clauses to protect the EU

The European Parliament on Thursday opted to shield the interests of the European Union in its trade relations with the United States and was in favour of the trade agreement between the two incorporating protection clauses against possible new tariffs or threats from US President Donald Trump, including their possible suspension. Thursday’s vote puts an end to three tense months in the European Parliament after MEPs have slowed down the processing of the agreement twice: the first because of Trump’s threats to take over Greenland and impose tariffs on European countries that sent troops to the Arctic island and the second because of the Supreme Court ruling that annulled a large part of the Republican’s tariffs.
