Key aspects of the European semester: what is the presidency and what role will Spain play?

From July 1 to December 31, Spain will lead the rotating presidency of the European Union and will be responsible for organizing agendas and coordinating the 27 EU governments in their negotiations. These are the keys to the European Semester:

1. What is a rotating EU presidency?

All Member States hold the Presidency of the Council of the EU in six-month shifts in which they are responsible for chairing and preparing the agenda of the various sectoral meetings of the Council – from Agriculture to Economy through Energy or Employment – and coordinating the work and negotiations of the Member States at each of the meetings, including meetings of EU Permanent Ambassadors.
