To achieve the goal of the Paris Agreement on climate change (limiting aggregate warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels), its 196 signatory countries will need to drastically reduce their greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. But each of these gases differs greatly in their global warming potential, or ability to absorb radiative energy and thus warm the Earth’s surface.
