Europe approves gradual reduction of emissions from maritime transport from 2% by 2025

Europe has approved the framework that will allow the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions in maritime transport gradually from 2025.

This is reflected in the FuelEU Maritime initiative, the regulation that is part of the Fit for 55 package of measures that has been adopted this week by the Council of the European Union (EU).
Specifically, the new regulation states that the EU will establish measures to gradually reduce the intensity of CO2 emissions from fuels used in the maritime sector, “from 2% in 2025 to 80% by 2050”.
