ETS2: the new European_CO2 tax that will make petrol and gas heating even more expensive

According to estimates by the European Commission, with a base price of 48 euros per tonne of CO₂, the cost of petrol could increase by 0.11 euros per litre, and diesel by 0.13.

The European Union is about to implement one of the most ambitious changes to its climate policy: the new Emissions Trading System for buildings, road transport and other additional sectors, known as ETS2. This tool, which will come into force in 2027 – with the possibility of a delay until 2028 if energy prices soar – will extend the European carbon market to areas that until now had remained outside the existing regime, such as residential heating and land transport.
