The European Commission (EC) estimates a reduction of up to €2.4 trillion in the European Union’s gross domestic product (GDP) between 2031 and 2050 if global warming more permanently exceeds the 1.5 degree threshold of the Paris Agreement.
“According to a conservative estimate, worsening climate impacts could reduce EU GDP by around 7% by the end of the century,” says the EU executive’s communication on climate risk management published on Tuesday and presented by the Vice-President for the European Green Deal, Maros Sefcovic, and the European Commissioner for Climate Action.
