The UN says that emissions are starting a downward curve for the first time, “although not yet fast enough”
A total of 64 countries signing the Paris Agreement submitted their national climate action plans (officially called Nationally Determined Contributions or NDCs) between 1 January 2024 and 30 September this year. This represents 32.9% of the total of 194 signatories (one of them, the European Union, which has not yet presented its emission reduction target either). This is what emerges from the Synthesis of Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) report for 2025, published on Tuesday by the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change. Among those presented, the report highlights that these new national action plans against climate change show “a progression” in terms of quality, credibility and economic coverage.
