APAC advances transboundary carbon capture and storage, fostering value chain growth

The region will attract $15 billion of planned investment in carbon capture and storage, according to Rystad Energy.

The Asia-Pacific (APAC) region is fast becoming a key player in the carbon capture and storage (CCS) sector. Asian countries are stepping up their decarbonization efforts, despite the challenges faced by some countries in the region, such as unsuitable geological conditions for carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS). Rystad Energy’s research highlights Australia, Malaysia and Indonesia as emerging hubs in the APAC region, driven by the potential for carbon dioxide (CO₂) storage in their depleted oil and gas fields and stricter environmental regulations, despite recent policy improvements and updates.
