The World Bank confirms that 3 out of every 10 tons of carbon emitted in the world already pay a price

Using a recent study of the state of carbon trends and prices in 2026, the World Bank noted that 29 percent of global greenhouse gas emissions are covered by some carbon pricing mechanism, the highest level on record. According to the analysis, the 87 policies implemented in 47 countries and the European Union generate progress that could be consolidated by 2030.

New Carbon Pricing Policies
India is one of the latest nations to join emissions regulation with its policies involving a carbon credit trading scheme, called CCTS, that targets hard-to-abate industries. Japan acted in the same way, as the country applied the GX-ETS system and it became mandatory for more than 700 companies to pay in case of generating greenhouse gases that exceed the limits postulated by the country. Meanwhile, other smaller countries such as Vietnam also implemented their compliance for emissions as early as 2025, while Serbia and Mauritania did the same with their first national carbon taxes.
