Study highlights obstacles in production, transport and deployment
In principle, all elements are already in place, from production to transportation and consumption, to enable a rapid ramp-up of production and deployment, the study concluded. However, there are significant obstacles at each stage of the value chain that must be overcome to give the process the necessary speed, he added. The European Union’s ambitious climate targets, including the “Fit for 55” target of reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 55% by 2035, are directly dependent on the large-scale introduction of low-emission molecules such as hydrogen. The think tank Dii Desert Energy, together with the engineering consultancy ILF Consulting Engineers, has analysed which factors are crucial for the necessary acceleration of the market. The study, which incorporates information from 31 leading companies across the hydrogen value chain, highlights that the technology and basic infrastructure for the production, transport and use of hydrogen are already practically established.
