The shift to a decarbonised energy system will boost demand for critical minerals needed for new low-carbon technologies, such as photovoltaic panels or batteries. Depending on the emissions reduction scenario considered in 2040, global demand could multiply by four to six times compared to today, so adequate planning is required to ensure its supply.
