Trade, Climate Change and the Carbon Border Tax

In July 2021, the European Commission presented the Fit for 55 package that includes the carbon border adjustment mechanism. The introduction of this cross-border carbon tax has sparked debates, as well as accusations of protectionism and climate neocolonialism attributed to the European Union. It is essential that countries prepare for this initiative and this involves the implementation of labor policies and support for the most vulnerable sectors.
