German industry criticises new EU carbon border tariff

Gradually, companies hoping to export their high-carbon products to Europe will have to pay.

German industry – particularly the chemical and automotive industry – has protested the expected bureaucratic strain over the gradual introduction of the EU’s new carbon border tariff (CBAM).
Previously, European manufacturers could count on emitting about half of their CO₂ without incurring additional charges under the EU Carbon Price (ETS) to remain competitive against foreign products.
