Experts: Germany must act faster on climate protection

The Council of Experts on Climate Affairs gives the German government a bad grade. CO₂ emissions are not reduced as expected, especially in heating and traffic. Immediate programmes must be put in place.

Germany emitted 746 million tons of CO₂ into the atmosphere in 2022. According to the Climate Protection Law, the country should emit a maximum of 438 million tons in 2030 and nothing in 2045.

Is the policy of the new German government on the right track? According to the Government-appointed Council of Experts on Climate Affairs and its report presented on Monday (17.04.2022) in Berlin, the answer is no.
