Reversal of the regulation on CO2_{emissions from} vans

The German government’s last-minute opposition to a ban on the sale of new vans (and passenger cars) with combustion engines beyond 2035 has stalled the adoption of this regulation.

Despite the fact that, in mid-February, with the approval by the European Parliament of the text agreed at the trialogue meetings (with representatives of the Commission, the European Parliament and the European Council), in many areas the Regulation regulating CO2 emissions from cars and vans was approved, the opposition of the German Government at the last moment to the agreed text has paralyzed the processing in the last step before of its publication in the Official Journal of the EU: its approval by the governments of the member countries in the European Council.
