Textiles are the fourth most important source of pressure on the environment and climate, from the perspective of European consumption, and Europe faces major challenges in the management of used textile products. As reuse and recycling capacities in Europe are limited, a large proportion of used textiles collected in the EU is marketed and exported to Africa and Asia, and their destination is highly uncertain.
